The Eco Zoo

http://www.ecodazoo.com is a great Flash site.  Very well designed and has a nice environmental message on living in a more eco friendly way.  I think it’s made with Papervision 3D and a lot of hard work.

Streaming Video from Mobile Phone Straight to the Web!

Stream live video from your mobile phone using Qik. It will then save the stream so you can share it with others. It’s really that simple. Once it’s set up you can stream video and then check it out later.

Real World Example: We’re interested in a house and now I can go through, stream the video to Qik.com and have my realtor and family members check it out. Sweet.

NBC Dumps Silverlight after Olympics and goes back to Flash

Need I say more?  Who knows if they were going to use it in the first place if MS didn’t sponsor the site.  Go Flash!

Google not hip enough for ya? Navigaya.com is sick!

So I stumbled upon Navigaya.com and can’t get over how sick it is.  It’s sweet.  Just hard to describe.  Think of it as Google’s hipper, older brother that lives in SoHo in a trendy studio and money to burn.

In general, it enables you to search multiple search engines at one time, and you also have quick access to all major news feeds, weather, movies, and pretty much every other site you visit on a regular basis.

An you can customize the music videos that you’re greeted by.  I just wish it was a desktop app.

Now the question is, does anyone know who made it?
navigaya.com

Sweet.

Application Mockup Creator Making Good Money (done in AIR)

Balsamiq, an application mockup creation tool built on Adobe AIR, has generated more than $10,000 in revenue less than 6 weeks after the $79 tool launched. The one-man company was profitable within 3 weeks after launch and the application itself is quite remarkable.

Google Trends Rocks

Google Trends

This might be news to everyone else but Google Trends rocks! Compare any two (or more) things to see how they’re faring with the public (search numbers).  Compare Flash to Silverlight and you’ll see how all is well in the land of Adobe.

Adapting to New Technology

“Most people use about 35% of the capacity of any one technology,” says Michelle Weil, a psychologist and product-design consultant, “and then they stop.”

I feel like everyone to a degree feels the pressure to learn new technology. I admire the people that don’t actually.  But if you work in the technical industry, as a designer, manager, programmer, or casual blog poster, you often feel the weight of not knowing things you think you should know.  This gets to be a major issue if you work in the technical field.  It forces you to learn, grow, get frustrated, and ultimately (at best) charge more per hour, and (at worst) keep your job.  But it’s our job to rise to the occasion and spend the late nights to learn the new widget that everyone’s asking for.

I think statistics say that your skills, as you know them today, will be obsolete in two years.  Boy does that suck.  But there’s plenty of opportunity to be the best in your field in a niche technology that just blossomed.  And there’s lots of money to be made in either training or making that niche technology.  That’s what inspires me. Being able to shape something that wasn’t there yesterday, and training others to do the same.  Getting inspired by www.thefwa.com , learning from www.lynda.com and using the programs from www.adobe.com .  It’s all there at our fingertips (literally) waiting to be created.  Exciting, yes?
